BUDGET

     Our budget reflects our values.

Every dollar spent must be for the benefit of our students. I make sure that our budget is focused on all students in every school.

I am proud of the work the Board has done in looking at every expenditure and listening to stakeholders about the needs they see.

I have voted for the first substantial wage increase for all staff since the recession.

I will continue to take local issues to decision makers in Sacramento. It is imperative that they understand the needs of small districts such as ours.

EQUITY

Every decision I make is through the lens of equity in education.

My focus is to ensure that every campus feels safe and welcoming to all students.

Ensuring that families can communicate with the district in the language of their choice has been a priority.

Implementing Social Emotional Learning curriculum in TK-8th grade and bringing Restorative Justice practices to our schools is the beginning of our work on improving campus culture.

Creation of a Guiding Coalition focused on inclusion and diversity will guide our next steps.

DOWNTOWN PROPERTY

The district office property is an asset that belongs to the community.

This site is the heart of downtown and must remain so.

I am committed to robust community conversation about how this treasure can be best used for the benefit of our district and community.

I believe that there is no greater indicator of community health than support for public education and rich public spaces.

The board, as the voice of the community, must create a vision and work to make this property become part of our thriving downtown while keeping education as the heart of our community.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

Every child deserves to succeed and achieve at high levels.

Students should have the opportunity to explore many subjects from academics to arts and music to sports and clubs. Learning occurs inside and outside the classroom.

Ensuring that all students have the needed resources to safely learn in their homes as well as on campus once they open is critical.

A focus on Professional Learning Communities "PLCs" is giving teachers the support needed to achieve these goals.

Bringing community into the classroom and the classroom into the community gives students the opportunity to learn how they contribute to society. I have a vision of having a mentorship/internship program for our students.

MEASURE K FOR KIDS

The state of our facilities is an equity issue for our students.

This bond will allow us to continue to make the improvements greatly needed in our district facilities.

Our last bond saw over

$4 million go directly to Ojai contractors benefiting our local economy.

Improved classrooms, energy efficiencies, and improvements to public fields and pool are a must if we are to better serve all students.

With a new pool we can make it a goal to see that every child in the Ojai Valley learns to swim keeping kids safer. Nordhoff is the only public pool in the valley and we must ensure we have it for the next generation.
